This is the Wobbelstopper

You lower it into the water over the side of the boat, where it slows your boat’s rolling.

The Wobbelstopper explained.

“We had the great privilege of being among the first to test the Wobbelstopper. We tried it with our 8-meter inflatable boat on the lake while lying at anchor for a quiet afternoon. We were so impressed that we tried it straight away on our summer vacation with a 40-foot sailboat. Those were the calmest nights we’ve ever spent on a sailboat.”

“We were a little skeptical at first, but we have now used the Wobbelstopper several times and are completely convinced! Once it is rigged, the boat rolls considerably less! We love spending the night in bays with our monohull (44 ft), so we use it a lot and it is a real game changer. A clear recommendation, the product works great!”

Waves, wind and passing boats set your boat in motion. That means unrest, stress and often nausea on board, just when you are looking for peace at anchor or in a mooring field.

The Wobbelstopper is a purely mechanical flopper stopper that clearly reduces the motion, the rolling, of your boat. No electrics, no modifications and no complicated technology. Simply rig it, lower it into the water and enjoy noticeably more calm on board right away. Developed from hands-on experience for real-world use and tested under real conditions.

Frequently asked questions

Does the system work on every boat?

Yes, the Wobbelstopper is versatile and suits most sailboats, motorboats and yachts. Depending on the size of the boat, you use the 4K or the 6K system. Thanks to its compact dimensions in the carry bag, it is easy to take along from boat to boat.

How soon will I notice an effect?

As a rule, the effect is noticeable immediately. As soon as the Wobbelstopper is in the water, the boat’s rolling becomes clearly calmer. The system is lowered on the side the waves come from, to about 2 meters below the surface.

Does the boat stop rolling completely?

The Wobbelstopper clearly reduces the motion of the boat.
Some movement remains, but the gain in comfort is very high.

Do I need poles or long booms?

No. The Wobbelstopper also works directly at the side of the boat: on a line on the side the waves come from, about two meters deep. If you have a main boom, though, you can swing it out to the side and hang the Wobbelstopper from it. That is worth doing, because the further the device hangs from the centerline of the boat, the longer the lever and the more strongly it slows the roll. The video above shows what that looks like on the boat.

Is one unit enough or do I need two?

One unit on the side the waves come from is the starting point and enough for most boats. For heavy boats or boats that roll a lot, some owners use two, one on each side.

Why not just use buckets or a home-made plate?

Many people try exactly that. Improvising can help, but it is awkward to handle and often frustrating. The Wobbelstopper is a well-thought-out stainless steel unit: assemble, hook on, stow away · repeatable and built for your time on the water.

Is the Wobbelstopper a flopper stopper?

Yes. A flopper stopper, also called a rocker stopper, is a device that is hung in the water over the side of the boat at anchor to slow its rolling. The Wobbelstopper works on this principle: when the boat rolls down, the flaps open and it sinks with almost no resistance. When the boat rolls back up, they close and slow the motion. Made in Bad Hofgastein, Austria.

How is it different from the orange cones?

The cones are inexpensive plastic cones, and you usually need several per side plus a weight. The Wobbelstopper is a flap system made of stainless steel · a single unit that locks mechanically as the boat rolls up. A different approach, different durability, different handling.

Does it also work in heavy swell?

In heavy swell and unfavorable conditions, some motion remains · that is physics. The aim is noticeable damping and more bearable nights, not a laboratory zero.

Packs small. Ready to use in a few simple steps.

The complete system, including the high-quality lines, travels in the practical, compact carry bag. Put the parts together in a few simple steps and the Wobbelstopper is ready to use.

Flexible ways to attach it. Rigged in minutes.

The flopper stopper is simply lowered into the water on its attachment line so that it hangs about 2 meters below the surface. You attach the system either to a cleat at the side or, on sailboats, to the boom swung out to the side. Rigging needs no tools at all and takes 2 minutes.

Hydrodynamically optimized. Reliable function.

The sink rate and the active flaps are precisely matched to each other, using gravity and the column of water to significantly reduce rolling. The weight and the flow behavior of the system were optimized in thousands of functional tests.

Anita and Herbert, the inventors of the Wobbelstopper, on their sailboat

Welcome aboard! We are Anita and Herbert.
Perhaps you are wondering why we developed yet another system to reduce rolling at anchor? It’s simple: we love the hours we spend together by the sea · the calm, life on board.
But for one of us, the rolling kept triggering nausea and discomfort. So we looked for solutions and tried quite a few things, yet nothing really convinced us. Too complicated, not durable, often bulky and space-consuming. As we have been running our own metalworking business for many years, we started tinkering ourselves. Our goal: a simple, effective and durable solution that also stows away compactly on board.
That is how the Wobbelstopper came about · for noticeably more calm on board, with no modifications and no electrics.
